This mother camel and her 23-day old calf are owned by my friend Salem. Camels, like horses,
have special nomenclature for various stages of development. Babies are known in Arabic as
hawar (male), bacra (female), gha'ood for either sex as adolescents, jamal for an adult
male and naga for adult female.
