Doug Baum – Texas Camel Corps – Rain today forced us to trailer all the way to Polly’s Chapel. This worked out fine as we were to be involved with a documentary filming about Policarpio Rodriguez. Rodriguez was a scout and early day Hill Country settler. The camels were not asked to do anything difficult and Gil got to play his great-great-grandfather, which was cool. The rain was not so fun, but we were happy to be a part of the project. Tonight we’re staying at the Bruce Ranch outside of Bandera and are looking forward to tomorrow’s proclamation at the Bandera County Courthouse at 12 noon. After that we’ll head to the Frontier Times Museum for a public program.
Jim Hale – American Camel Company – Polly’s Chapel is a beautiful historic place that everyone in Texas should see.
Ernest Geigenmiller – San Antonio, Texas – When we started out it was great, and when we got to Polly’s Chapel, everything was perfect. I loved everything. It was really special. We met and listened to the constable, and he was very, very nice with us. He led us where we wanted to go. And the weather followed us everywhere we went, and we loved it.
Frank Gonzales – Smiley, Texas – Lots of adversity with the rain, however, it was fun and very inspiring to see one of my new family members walk in the footsteps of those who came before him. And though the rain made it uncomfortable, I just thought to myself, what would Wayne have done.
Gil T. Hernandez – San Antonio, Texas – Today was a natural high. I’ve got these crusty shoes down on my feet. I can tell you the places that they’ve seen. It was a natural high to step in the same places that your forefathers have walked.
