Doug Baum – Texas Camel Corps – Leaving Nursery today, we were seen off by Mrs. Kubesch’s 5th grade class. It was sure sweet of her to bring the kids to tell us goodbye. Along the way today many people stopped on HWY 87 and most seemed to be aware of the camel drive. Each day on the Camel Drive we meet so many wonderful people. Les Cole, who put us up in Victoria, flew over our caravan today in a small airplane and was taking aerial photography. This was a really fun and thoughtful gesture and we sure were waving as he tipped his wings and flew off into the horizon. The scenery began to change today – we’re starting to see many more Oak trees and the camels love that. I had been counting on the camels grazing along the way on native grasses, trees, and bushes and conditions on the trail have really been favorable. We made almost 7 miles on foot today crossing the DeWitt county line at 12 noon, pushed on for another hour then trailored the camels into Cuero, Texas. The DeWitt County Sheriff Jody Zavesky has certainly put the word out about the camels visit to his town. The Cuero Rodeo Arena is a perfect setup for our camels and our camp and we’re looking forward to being here through Friday. Shortly after arrival we were met by Cuero’s Mayor Edge and numerous Little Leaguers who were playing on nearby diamonds. Tomorrow we visit the Rotary Club which meets at the Cuero Country Club. I hope the folks at the Country Club know what they are in for. Friday we visit the Cuero Nursing and Rehab Center to share the camels with the residence of this facility. On a camel note, I’m sure pleased with the camel’s performance on the road. Day one we made 11 miles in about 5 hours. Day two, it took us 3 hours to make 6 miles. After resting 2 days in Victoria, our speed today was a little better, making the nearly 7 miles in just under 3 hours.

Jim Hale – American Camel Company – The camels are enjoying the trip as much as I am. All the people we met today were fantastic and enthusiastic.

Ernest Geigenmiller – San Antonio, TX – This just can’t get any better. It’s an awesome trip.

Gil T. Hernandez – San Antonio, TX – Venemos pintando huelas des de Indialola y vamos en este camino. Muchas gracias a mi familia.
