Doug - From a camel perspective, everything went great. We made 11 miles with no accident or injury except for Doug’s cell phone which fell into the bay and Gil’s cell phone which met pavement at a truck stop. Tomorrow we leave Port Lavaca and head to Placedo and it will be interesting to see how fresh and quick the camels' steps are. All passers-by on the highway today seemed to be aware of the camel drive and we would like to thank all the local media who helped spread the word.
Jim Hale – American Camel Company – Last night camping on the beach in Indianola, around 2 or 3am some teenage boys came through in a truck and shouted “Look at the ostrich!”
Gil T. Hernandez, San Antonio, TX – This is the first trek that I’ve done and it was wonderful. No where else but Texas would this occur and I’m proud to be a part of it.
Tammy T. – Bronte, TX – The camels were very gentle. I enjoyed seeing a three foot section of a dead alligator on the side of the road.
Carolyn C. – Rockport, TX – Carolyn learned to drive Doug’s truck today. Oddly enough the traffic did not startle the camels, but the cool breeze rustling in the trees sometimes would.
D’Ann H. – Inez, TX – I was standing on the beach where over 6,000 immigrants had once landed and entered Texas at Indianola, once known as the "Dream City of the Gulf". Very serene, and memorable.
Also along on the trek was Roger Berry from Ventura CA – (www.camelphotos.com). He is a world class photographer who's chronicling the early stages of the drive and we are eager to see his film and still photos.
